Get Hired: Employment & Internships For Students
The Employment and Internship Office provides students and alumni access and support for seeking professional experience via multiple online platforms, including the Seahawk Job Board. These tools allow students to access job and internship opportunities with numerous employer and community partners in the Monterey Bay and San Francisco Bay Regions as well as on campus Student Assistant jobs.
In addition, students can also attend and participate in multiple on campus and off campus hiring events and job fairs. Event information as well as tips on how to prepare and maximize these opportunities can be found below.

Please be mindful of scams and fraudulent jobs as you engage with employers. Jobs that ask you to deposit a check or make a large purchase you'll be reimbursed for (i.e. gift cards, cashier's checks, etc.), promise a large salary or bonus for little work, or jobs where you don't speak to anyone "live" before you start, are likely fraudulent. Steps to set up your account:
1) Access Account for first time:
Click on Student Button-current students already have an account and can login using their Cabrillo credentials.
2) Change email address: This will ensure you receive emails from the career services team, employers, and updates on your pending applications.
Once logged in, Click on picture icon in upper right corner

Verify email that is sent to activate it (Check your spam folder for news@jobspeaker.com)
3) Select Your Program & Set up your Profile

Internships
Internships allow students to develop and apply skills and competencies in a professional setting in preparation for transitioning into the workforce. While participating in an internship students can expect to receive supervision and mentorship, build their professional network as well as perform tasks and duties relevant to their educational and professional goals. In addition, internships provide students with experience, perspective and confidence to inform and shape their career goals.
Students can earn credit while employed at a job or internship through The Internship and Work Experience program. This course is designed for students to formally structure learning and professional development goals into their current job, internship or volunteer position and earn academic credit doing so. This academic credit is CSU transferable and can also be applied toward various Career Education degrees and certificates at Cabrillo College. Community Events:
In addition to the Cabrillo Career Fairs, numerous job fairs and events are hosted throughout the Monterey Bay and San Francisco Bay region. Cabrillo College Employment & Internship Office works with numerous outside agencies to organize and deliver various events throughout the year.
Cabrillo College & the County of Santa Cruz are hosting an on campus event to highlight the variety of internship opportunities within the local government and share tips when applying for positions.

Working on Campus:
How to Apply - There are a variety of opportunities to work on campus. Many of the departments post their positions through the Seahawk job board. Students should follow the application procedures for that department.
Types of Employment Opportunities -
Department Funded Employment: Students enrolled in 6 or more units are eligible to work part-time on-campus within a variety of departments. They must follow the application instructions, process, and meet the qualifications in order to be considered for the position.
Federal Work Study: Federal Work-Study provides part-time on-campus jobs for students with financial need that are enrolled in at least 6 units. Students must complete the FAFSA and receive a Work Study Award through the Financial Aid office. Funds are limited, so not all qualifying students will receive an award. CalWorks: CalWorks provides part-time on or off campus jobs for students with financial need. The requirements for eligibility are that you are receiving CalWORKs/TANF, are enrolled in at least 6 units and are in good academic standing. Students
It usually takes 24 to 48 hours for your account to be approved because Student Employment has to verify that you are a current student or alumni.
Current students can use their Cabrillo credentials to log in to the job board. Alumni will need to register using the Alumni button. Please email studentjobs@cabrillo.edu if you have any questions.
Generally, on-campus jobs (at Cabrillo) are flexible, although hours and shifts depend on the department hiring. There are also many off-campus employers (businesses and individuals) offering part-time work that are willing to work around your schedule. Many employers post the days, times, or hours they would like someone to work for them.
The job postings vary week to week, but there are all sorts of industries including nursing and personal care, business, art, construction, general labor, horticulture, and more.
First, you need to be a current student enrolled in at least 6 units (this can be for the current semester or the upcoming semester, if you aren't currently working on campus).
Second, you need to find a department that's hiring. The best way to do this is to check the Seahawk Job Board and use the advanced search option to search for on-campus department funded or Work Study jobs. You can also come to the Student Employment Office and we can help you search
Third, you need to fill out a "Temporary/Hourly and Student Employment Application." This can be downloaded and printed here or you can pick one up from Student Employment. Take this application to the department with the open position(s) and give it to the staff.
Finally, if you're a qualified candidate, you will be contacted for an interview.
Cooperative Work Experience Education (CWEE) is a structured method of combining classroom-based education with practical work experience while earning units. CWEE can be paid or unpaid and is always supervised by a professional in the students' chosen field of study. The Federal Work-Study (FWS) Program was created to provide part-time employment for college students who qualify through the Federal Financial Aid process.
As a result of a student's financial aid application (FAFSA), a student may be awarded FWS based on financial need. Priority application filing is between January 2 and March 2 to be considered for a FWS award for the following fall academic term.

Federal Work-Study jobs are only available in on-campus departments. There are no off-campus placements.
